about
Out of the Cocoon was my second short film, following a boy with mental illness as he navigates reality and his fragile bond with his brother. After The Gramophone, I set out to push further with a more technically ambitious script, stronger cinematography, and a refined cast. What began as a simple story of bullying and revenge evolved as the brother emerged as a caretaker, a shield, and ultimately the emotional core of the film. From this, the theme of betrayal took shape, the world betraying him, and finally the one person he depended on most. In a pivotal shift after the first day of shooting, the brother became an illusion, not a person but an ideal the protagonist clings to. The film then becomes about breaking that illusion, destroying the cocoon that once protected him in order to become something new.
